Vol. 555 No. 5

Written Answers. - Agriculture Scheme Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

149 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when archived satellite imagery will be available for herd owners to view, to progress arable aid scheme appeals; the number of appeals lodged at present; the number of farmers who have been deemed ineligible due to satellite imagery evidence; the frequency of the images taken between 1987 and 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18858/02]

Following an audit on the eligibility of land on which payments were made under the 2001 EU arable aid scheme, it was found that a claim was made on ineligible land in the case of 33 applicants. Appeals have been lodged in two of these cases. A presentation of the findings, including the relevant satellite imagery, is now being prepared and will shortly be made available to the two farmers concerned. On average, nine images were available for the whole country for each of the reference years. Areas of these images also overlap, thereby increasing the amount of imagery available for sections of the country. In effect therefore, ten or more images were available for the greater number of the land parcels concerned.
