Vol. 555 No. 5

Written Answers. - Animal Identification Scheme.

Dan Neville

Question:

169 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when difficulties with regard to the sale of a bovine animal will be removed for a person (details supplied) in County Limerick. [19179/02]

The position is that a bovine animal in the herd of the person identified is the subject of a duplicate animal inquiry. Such inquiries are initiated when the existence of two animals with the same identification number come to attention. The purpose of the inquiry is to establish the correct origin and identity of both animals. The case in question involves investigating the records of a number of herdowners in different counties over a period of a couple of years. The inquiry is at an advanced stage and it is expected that a decision will be taken shortly.
