Vol. 555 No. 5

Written Answers. - Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme.

Eoin Ryan

Question:

195 Mr. Eoin Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 2 was not offered a third year on VTOS; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18854/02]

The vocational training opportunities scheme, which is operated through the vocational education committees, caters for some 5,000 participants. Demand for places throughout the country generally exceeds supply.

A VTOS programme lasts for up to two years. Vocational education committees have discretion to allow a student a third year on VTOS on certain well-defined conditions, which do not apply in the case of the student in question.
