Vol. 556 No. 1

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of topics under Standing Order 31 dealing with four different issues. I will call Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

In regard to the first topic, I received notice from Deputy Hogan and I call on him to state the matter.

I seek to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent national importance, namely the increasing difficulties for consumers of getting insurance cover as exemplified by a decision of a court yesterday which resulted in the refusal of a waste management licence for a company in County Kildare.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31. In regard to the second topic, I have received notice from Deputy Neville and I call on him to state the matter.

I seek to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent national importance, namely the decision of the mental handicap nurses to vote in favour of industrial action which will force people with mental handicaps to return home to be cared for by parents in many cases.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31. On the third topic, I call Deputy Connaughton to state his matter.

I seek to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent national importance, namely the ongoing dispute by farmers against the artificially low prices paid by meat factories, the deafening silence of the Minister for Agriculture and Food who should be actively seeking a resolution to this problem and the total lack of confidence Irish farmers have in the Minister for Agriculture and Food to open the Egyptian market despite the promises made before the general election.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31. On the fourth topic, I call Deputy Eamon Ryan to state his matter.

I seek to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent national importance, namely the doubling of the level of redundancies over the last two years as highlighted in a recent report of the redundancy review group.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.
