Vol. 556 No. 2

Written Answers. - RAPID Programme.

Seán Crowe

Question:

152 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the position regarding the progress of the RAPID scheme for the constituency of Dublin South-West. [19587/02]

As the Deputy is aware, the RAPID Programme is a focused initiative by the Government to target the most concentrated areas of disadvantage in the country. The programme also calls on Departments and State agencies to bring about better co-ordination and closer integration in the delivery of services. Strand I of the programme targets 25 urban areas while strand II is targeting 20 provincial towns.

There are four designated RAPID areas in South Dublin County Council; one in north Clondalkin and three in Tallaght. The north Clondalkin RAPID area consists of twelve local authority housing estates, grouped in the three sub-areas of Quarryvale, Rowlagh and Moorfield. The Tallaght RAPID areas include Fettercairn, including Brookfield, Killinarden, including Cushlawn, and Jobstown.
Under the programme, priority attention is given to tackling the spatial concentration of poverty and social exclusion within the designated areas through the front-loading of State resources, available under the national development plan.
A total of 173 project proposals have been forwarded to Departments for consideration under the plans from the four designated areas in South Dublin County Council and these are being considered at present in the context of Departmental budgets.
