Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Directives.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

319 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will provide a copy of all reasoned opinions and letters of formal notice sent by the European Union's Directorate General for Fisheries to Ireland since 1 July 2002. [20634/02]

Since 1 July 2002, the European Commission has transmitted one letter of formal notice to Ireland which deals with two matters which fall within the responsibility of the European Commissions Directorate General for Fisheries, as well as a number of other issues. The two matters in question are: Council Directive 1999/63/EC of 21 June 1999 concerning the agreement on the organisation of working time of seafarers concluded by the European Community Shipowners Association, ECSA, and the Federation of Transport Workers Unions in the European Union, FST; and Directive 1999/95/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 13 December 1999 concerning the enforcement of provisions in respect of seafarers' hours of work on board ships calling at Community ports. I will arrange to have copies of the relevant correspondence forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible. No reasoned opinions have been received since 1 July 2002.
