Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Accident and Emergency Services.

John Bruton

Question:

487 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the details of a case where a person (details supplied) in County Meath attending accident and emergency department in an Eastern Regional Health Authority hospital, had to wait for over seven hours, before it was confirmed that this person did not have meningitis; the reason the delay occurred in having the results of their tests given to them; the reason there was a delay in receiving this response from his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19781/02]

Responsibility for the provision of acute hospital services to residents of County Meath rests with the North-Eastern Health Board. My Department has therefore requested the chief executive officer of the health board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to respond directly to the Deputy.
