Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Health Board Staff.

Gerard Murphy

Question:

561 Mr. Murphy asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason experience as a clerical officer, grade 3, in the Mercy Hospital, Cork, is not recognised for a Southern Health Board job. [20492/02]

The recruitment of clerical-administrative staff at grade IV to grade VII level posts in health boards, including the Southern Health Board, is governed by the union-management agreement relating to the common recruitment pool. Under this agreement, posts at these levels are filled as promotional outlets for current staff in health boards and local authorities in the State. The Mercy Hospital does not comprise part of the common recruitment pool and hence experience as a clerical officer in that hospital does not qualify an applicant to compete for a promotional post in the Southern Health Board.
