Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

686 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department will provide ?391,000 to Galway City Council to enable it to bring up to standard sewerage and services at Ballybrit, Galway, in order that it can be taken in charge by the city council from the IDA, as considerable development is pending on this sewer being taken in charge by the city council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20231/02]

No such request for funding has been submitted to my Department by the city council. Neither was the proposal included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by the city council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments.

The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2002-2004, announced in April 2002. Given the absence of any prioritised proposal for Ballybrit, it has not been included in the programme.
