Vol. 556 No. 4

Written Answers. - Domestic Violence Intervention Project.

Enda Kenny

Question:

212 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his plans to fund a pilot project for a national domestic violence integration programme; the length of the planned pilot project; the amount of funding available; his plans to extend this programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20865/02]

In 2000 my Department funded research into the development of an intervention model for victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. Arising from that research, a proposal for the establishment of a domestic violence intervention project has been received. My Department is currently in consultation with the Department of Finance regarding funding.

It is proposed that the project will be established in one area in Dublin and will run on a pilot basis for one year after which the project will be evaluated. The Deputy will appreciate that any expansion of the programme will be dependent on the results of the evaluation of the pilot project.
