Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

124 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Finance the position in relation to the refurbishment of a Garda station (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the delay in the progression of this matter. [21032/02]

I am advised by the Commissioners of Public Works that arrangements are currently in hand to provide two new cells and to upgrade the existing electrical installation at Burnfoot Garda station, County Donegal. The anticipated completion date for these works is the end of May 2003.

Question:

125 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Finance the position in relation to the extension of a Garda station (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21033/02]

There are two Garda stations on the Inishowen peninsula at which prisoners are held, Buncrana and Burnfoot. Both stations are due for refurbishment and because of the need to have one of the stations operating with cell accommodation at any one time, a strategy has been agreed with the local Garda Síochána whereby Burnfoot will be refurbished first. The Buncrana project is a larger scheme of works and will involve an extension and refurbishment to the existing Garda station which has been made possible by the acquisition of two adjoining plots of land. Certain site and boundary works are necessary in the short term at Buncrana and these will be undertaken in the near future. Planning of the Buncrana project is in hand and it will proceed when the Burnfoot scheme is completed.
