Vol. 556 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Seán Haughey

Question:

144 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Limerick will be admitted to the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20891/02]

The provision of health related services, including rehabilitation services, to people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards in the first instance. I have made inquiries into this matter and the National Rehabilitation Hospital has recently confirmed that the individual in question is on its waiting list and will be admitted as soon as a bed is available. I have requested that every consideration be given to this case, but the Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of admission to the hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned and is determined solely on the basis of medical priority.
