188 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his views, further to Parliamentary Question No. 395 of 15 October 2002, on a contract for work to the value of ?7,000 being entered into by Dúchas without being put to competitive tender; if this is normal practice within that organisation; if he intends to tighten tendering and procurement controls; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21021/02]

This contract observed with internal Departmental guidelines which are also consistent with overall Government procurement guidelines. There is no immediate proposal at present to modify these and the system is subject to audit both through the Department's internal audit process and by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
