Vol. 557 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Paudge Connolly

Question:

241 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will restore full seven day, 24 hour acute services to Monaghan General Hospital. [21839/02]

Responsibility for the provision of services at Monaghan General Hospital rests with the North-Eastern Health Board. It is a matter for the board to determine the nature and level of service provision at the hospital, consistent with the board's commitment to the provision of a high quality, efficient and cost effective service. I have been advised by the NEHB that it is continuing to seek to resolve the service difficulties at the hospital. The board is of the view that the resolution of these difficulties will require the input from the relevant professional bodies, including the Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Surgeons, the College of Anaesthetists and the Medical Council as well as that of Comhairle na nOspidéal. It will also require the co-operation of the clinical staff of the Cavan/Monaghan Hospital Group. The board's overriding objective is to ensure the provision of safe and sustainable services at Monaghan Hospital as part of the Cavan/Monaghan Hospital group.

Michael Noonan

Question:

242 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Health and Children the moneys which were allocated to the Mid-Western Health Board in respect of adult CF services in 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21840/02]

The provision of funding for the development of services for adults with cystic fibrosis in the Mid-Western Health Board region is a matter in the first instance for the board in the context of their service plan for 2002. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this matter and reply to the Deputy directly.

John Perry

Question:

243 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children further to Parliamentary Question No. 1067 of 9 October 2002, if a person (details supplied) will be called for an operation in view of the dramatic deterioration in their condition; if the hospital will make contact with this person to discuss their condition; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21873/02]

Responsibility for the provision of health services to persons residing in County Sligo rests with the North-Western Health Board. My Department has again asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
