Question:

246 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will investigate the incident at St. Finbar's Maternity Hospital, Cork, where two new born infants were given to the wrong mothers; and the new procedures which can be put in place to ensure that this does not arise again with other infants, particularly as it seriously affects the bonding of the mother with their child. The provision and management of services at St. Finbar's Maternity Hospital, Cork, is a matter, in the first instance, for the Southern Health Board. I understand the Southern Health Board is investigating the issues raised by the Deputy. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to reply directly to the Deputy.

O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health and Children if the internal investigation report into the death of a person (details supplied) will be made available; and if his attention has been drawn to the ongoing annoyance felt by the family and friends of the deceased person in relation to the manner in which this deceased person was discharged from hospital and the tragic events which occurred thereafter. The provision of services at Mallow General Hospital, is a matter, in the first instance, for the Southern Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to him.
