Vol. 557 No. 2

Written Answers. - Liquor Licensing Laws.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

254 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of prosecutions made under the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2000, against purchasing alcohol on behalf of or for minors; if he will provide a county breakdown of these figures and the outcome in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21794/02]

I am informed that the purchase of intoxicating liquor for delivery to, or consumption by a person under the age of 18 years in any place other than a private residence is an offence under section 32(1)(a) of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1988. I am also informed that figures for this offence are not readily available, and could only be obtained with the expenditure of an inordinate amount of Garda time and resources.
