Vol. 557 No. 2

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of topics under Standing Order 31 dealing with four different issues. I propose to deal with them separately and I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

In regard to the first topic, I received notice from Deputy Olivia Mitchell and I call on her to state the matter.

I seek leave to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent national importance: the proposed EU directive which may allow health professionals, struck off in other countries, to practice here and to ask the Tánaiste what plans she has to prevent the directive being implemented.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.

In regard to the second topic, I received notice from Deputy Kathleen Lynch and I call on her to state the matter.

I seek leave to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent national importance: the need for the Minister for Social and Family Affairs to indicate why workers at Irish Fertiliser Industries have not received any State benefits since they were summarily dismissed with one hour's notice on 31 October.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.

In regard to the third topic, I received notice from Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh and I call on him to state the matter.

I seek leave to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent national importance: the likelihood that the United States will wage war on Iraq if it fails to comply with the UN Security Council deadline and the need for Ireland to refuse to allow its airports to be used as a staging ground for this war.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.

In regard to the fourth topic, I received notice from Deputy Arthur Morgan and I call on him to state the matter.

I seek leave to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent national importance: that following further incidents of radioactive leaks, this time at Dounreay in Scotland, the Irish people are exposed to an unacceptable risk from the British nuclear industry.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.
