Vol. 557 No. 2

Written Answers. - Insurance Industry.

Richard Bruton

Question:

155 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the baseline basket of insurance policies which she will monitor to ensure the insurance industry passes on the benefits of the reform programme which she is introducing; and the baseline insurance charge for each category which applies at present. [21885/02]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the Government has approved my proposal that a monitoring committee be established now including representatives of IBEC, the Consumers' Association of Ireland and the chairperson of the MIAB, to progress the insurance reform programme which I announced on 25 October. Its objective would be a reduction in insurance costs by the industry in furtherance of the commitments set out in An Agreed Programme for Government.
