Vol. 557 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

134 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the erection of a new school on a site being provided by the local community in view of the health and safety problems posed by conditions obtaining in Gortahork national school, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21982/02]

The most up to date position on building projects is available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. In view of the extensive nature of the primary school building programme, my Department has no plans at present to start architectural planning for further major building projects.

The board of management of Gortahork national school should ensure that essential health and safety issues at the school are attended to. They should therefore continue to use the devolved grant for minor works and if the cost of any works of an emergency nature exceeds the amount available under the devolved grant, they may apply to my Department's building unit for grant aid.
