Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Paul Kehoe

Question:

136 Mr. Kehoe asked the Minister for Education and Science the commencement date for the building of the additional classrooms at a school (details supplied) in County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21989/02]

Architectural planning for a building project at the school referred to by the Deputy is at an early stage. Decisions on projects proceeding to tender and construction in 2003 will be taken in the light of the annual allocation for primary school buildings, taking into account the contractual commitments to be met on projects approved and the priority to be afforded to individual projects.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

138 D'fhiafraigh Mr. Sargent den Aire Oideachais agus Eolaíochta cathain a bheidh foirgneamh buan ag Scoil an Duinnínigh, Cionn Sáile, Contae Átha Cliath mar tá na botháin shealadacha ag titim as a chéile. [21991/02]

Tá clár fairsing tógála bunscoileanna ar siúl faoi láthair agus áirítear sa chlár sin líon mór tionscnamh a bhfuil céimeanna éagsúla curtha i gcrích cheana féin sa phleanáil ailtireachta. Dfhonn an líon mór de thionscadail tógála scoileanna atá idir lámha faoi láthair ag mo Roinn agus an tosaíocht chuí nach mór a thabhairt do a leithéid, níl sé indéanta ag an bpointe seo tráthchlár a sholáthar a chuirfeadh in iúl cathain a dhéanfar iarratas ó bhord bainistíochta na scoile an Duinnínigh a phróiseáil. Coimeádfar an gnó faoi athbhreithniú.

Question:

139 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress being made to accommodate the educational needs of the growing Church of Ireland population in Balbriggan, County Dublin. [21992/02]

My Department has an extensive primary school building programme under way at present and this includes a large number of projects at various stages of architectural planning, details of which are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

Decisions on additional projects proceeding to architectural planning are taken in the light of the annual allocation for capital projects, the financial commitments to be met and the priority to be afforded to individual projects. The programme for 2002 is in place and the schools concerned have been notified. Later this year when a financial allocation has been made for the primary school building programme in the 2003 budget I will be framing a further programme of works and this will involve putting more projects into architectural planning. The needs of the school in question will be considered at that time.

In the meantime, the school's board of management should ensure that essential health and safety issues at the school are attended to. They should therefore continue to use the devolved grant for minor works and if the cost of any works of an emergency nature exceeds the amount available under the devolved grant, they may apply to my Department's building unit for grant-aid.

Question:

140 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress and targets to provide a second level school on the Donabate peninsula, County Dublin. [21993/02]

The need for educational provision at post-primary level in Donabate is under active consideration in my Department. Account is being taken of all relevant factors, including enrolment and demographic trends, housing developments and existing school provision serving the area. In addition, my officials are in regular contact with the planning department of Fingal County Council regarding developments in north County Dublin, including Donabate. The intention is to ensure that any requirement for a post-primary school in the area is addressed in a timely manner.
