Vol. 557 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Dan Boyle

Question:

142 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Education and Science the details of the five school building projects being financed under the public private partnership system; and the extent to which new buildings are being provided, and existing buildings are being retained or renovated, at each of the locations. [21995/02]

The schools bundle PPP provides for the construction of five new schools each comprising general classrooms, specialist classrooms for music, science and vocational training, staff rooms and offices, library and gymnasium.

Three of the new schools – Clones, Ballincollig and Dunmanway – are constructed on green field sites. A decision has yet to be made regarding the disposition of the existing buildings, two of which belong to religious orders. Both Ballincollig and Saint Caimin's community schools will be demolished to facilitate the new schools and sports facilities on the existing sites.
