Written Answers. - Physical Education Facilities.

Dan Boyle

Question:

143 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Education and Science the existing and proposed gymnasium facilities at each of the five school building projects being financed under the public private partnership. [21996/02]

Under the terms of the schools bundle PPP project, seven schools, including two amalgamations, are being replaced with five new schools, each of which is being provided with a state-of-the-art gymnasium, with associated storage, changing rooms and showers. Five of the seven schools being replaced under this project had gymnasium facilities.

Question:

144 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Education and Science his proposals to augment physical education facilities for the five primary schools located at Ballincollig, County Cork. [21997/02]

Architectural planning for the provision of a general purpose hall for use by both Scoil Mhuire and Scoil Eoin national schools, Ballincollig is at an early stage. Decisions on projects proceeding to tender and construction are taken in the light of the annual allocation for primary school buildings, taking into account the financial commitments to be met on projects approved and the priority to be afforded to individual projects.

In view of the extensive nature of the building programme, my Department has no plans at present to start architectural planning for any further major primary school building projects in Ballincollig.
