Vol. 557 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dental Services.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

201 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of vacancies for permanent dental surgeons in the Kerry area; when it is proposed to fill these vacancies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22062/02]

As the Deputy is aware, responsibility for the provision of dental treatment services in Kerry is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board in the first instance.

The chief executive officer of the Southern Health Board has informed me that the board's budgeted complement of dental surgeons in the Kerry community services area is 15 whole time equivalents, WTEs, of which 12.5 are in place. The chief executive officer has further informed me that the board is continuing in its efforts to recruit personnel for the area.
