Vol. 557 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

232 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the provision of footpaths and public lighting on the road leading from the regional road to the airport at Carrickfin, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21984/02]

The maintenance and improvement of non-national roads in its area and the selection of works or projects to be funded under the various non-national road grant categories is a matter for Donegal County Council to be funded from its own resources supplemented by State grants.

Donegal County Council was allocated non-national road grants of €25,380,818 in 2002 which represents a 12% increase on 2001 and an 83% increase compared to 1997. In addition, the council is expected to spend a further €5,952,786 from its resources in 2002, which means that total expenditure on non-national roads in 2002 by the council will be €31,333,604.
