Vol. 557 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Status.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

53 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science his proposals to meet the commitment given in An Agreed Programme for Government to implement changes to retention and support policies which will assist schools in areas of significant disadvantage to recruit and retain teachers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21750/02]

The commitment referred to by the Deputy is to be implemented during the five year period of the programme for Government.

I have asked officials of my Department to examine how best this commitment can be implemented and to consult with the partners in education in that regard. On completion of that examination and consultation process decisions will be taken on the appropriate implementation measures and the timing of their introduction.
