207 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the progress to date on the proposed amalgamation of the Ballymun comprehensive schools; the building or refurbishment works which this will entail; and the time scale for the completion of full amalgamation. [22171/02]

Agreement has been reached between the managerial authorities of the senior comprehensive school, girls' comprehensive school and boys' comprehensive school in Ballymun to amalgamate. It is planned to locate the new school at the existing girls' comprehensive and boys' com prehensive buildings. In advance of the amalgamation taking place, extensive refurbishment works are planned at the buildings. The works are planned to be carried out in phases. Phase I of the works involves the refurbishment of the sports hall, site works and boundary works at the school. These works have been tendered and the tender report is currently being examined within my Department. Phase II of the works entails the complete refurbishment of the building. Phase II is currently in architectural planning.

208 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science his proposals for the future use of the senior comprehensive school building which will become vacant following the amalgamation of the Ballymun comprehensive schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22172/02]

No decisions have been taken regarding the future use of the senior comprehensive school building when the building becomes vacant following the rationalisation of school provision in the Ballymun area.
