Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

309 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the progress to date his Department has made in fighting coastal erosion in County Louth; the locations being studied by his Department; the expected costs; and when work will commence. [22654/02]

Under my Department's coast protection programme for 2002, approval was given for expenditure amounting to €1.097 million – 75% of which will be funded by my Department – for a number of urgent projects in County Louth, all to be completed before the end of 2002 by Louth County Council. The works in question comprise the reinstatement of an embankment at Bellurgan, repair to the road verge at Salterstown, protection works at Cruisetown, Seapoint, Shelling Hill, Carlingford and Annagassan harbours, rock armour protection at Whitestown, sea wall protection at Blackrock, as well as a comprehensive condition survey of the County Louth coast.
