Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Mental Handicap Services.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

362 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health and Children if the budget for the Galway Association for the Mentally Handicapped will be increased for 2003 to enable them to maintain the services the Galway Association has provided in 2002; and if they will receive an increased budget to enable them to improve this very valuable service which they are providing. [22658/02]

Responsibility for the provision of services to persons with an intellectual disability and those with autism in the Galway region rests with the Western Health Board. This includes decisions in relation to new developments or the enhancement of existing services. The Deputy will appreciate that I cannot at this stage comment on specific funding for any element of the health services in 2003 prior to the conclusion of the annual budget discussions.
