Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Offences.

Michael Ring

Question:

379 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Transport if it is necessary to introduce legislation to ensure that speed cameras along roads are painted yellow, as in other EU countries; and if this can be done by order. [22156/02]

The Road Traffic Acts provide both for the use of equipment, including cameras, for the purpose of facilitating the detection of speeding offences and the provision and maintenance by road authorities, with the consent of the Garda Commissioner, of equipment and structures which they consider desirable for the detection of speeding offences. The determination of all matters relating to the equipment or structures is therefore a matter for the road authorities acting, where required, in consultation with the Garda Commissioner.
