Question:407 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the amount of Garda expenditure on the enforcement of road traffic law. [22405/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there is a full-time traffic unit in each Garda division. The total number of gardaí of all ranks employed in these units is 382. All members of the Garda Síochána have a responsibility, inter alia, to deal with traffic matters as they arise, and, therefore, it is not possible to calculate the Garda time taken up on traffic duties, or the total cost involved.
