Written Answers. - Crime Levels.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

429 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of on the spot fines issued by the Garda Síochána for breaches of the control of consumption and possession of alcohol by-laws in Maynooth, Celbridge and Leixlip in 2001 and 2002 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22559/02]

I regret I have been informed by the Garda authorities that it has not been possible in the time available to obtain the information requested by the Deputy. I will contact the Deputy as soon as the details are available.

Seán Crowe

Question:

430 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of house burglaries which have been reported to the Garda authorities in the Dublin South-West area; the way in which these figures compare with other areas of the city; and the number of individuals who have been charged before the courts on charges relating to these activities. [22560/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the Dublin South-West area comprises the sub-districts of Tallaght, Clondalkin, Ronanstown, Lucan and Leixlip. I am further informed that from 1/1/2002 to 17/11/2002, 1,228 burglaries have been reported to the Garda authorities in the Dublin South-West area, and a total of 171 of these burglaries have been detected. I am also informed that, to date, 205 charges have been brought before the courts relating to these activities. It should be noted that these figures are provisional and subject to change.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that it is not possible to provide a comparison of such offences in other parts of the city as that information is not readily available and could only be obtained by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of time and resources.
