Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Offshore Exploration.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

126 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the steps he will take to expedite development of the Corrib gas field having regard to the decision of Enterprise Energy Ireland to postpone construction of the pipeline in County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22340/02]

I have no role in deciding as to when the development work proceeds. This is a matter for Enterprise Energy Ireland Limited acting as developer for the field. My understanding with regards to the development of the field is that the pipeline works have been postponed pending a determination being made by An Bord Pleanála in relation to the terminal at Bellanaboy, County Mayo. The Deputy will be aware that I have given all the necessary permissions and consents for the Corrib gas field development in so far as my Department is concerned.
