Question:

189 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has made provision to increase the charges in hospitals for attendance at casualty or for bed nights in public or private beds in 2003; the present charges; and the proposed new charges. [22985/02]

No increase in public hospital charges for casualty or out-patient attendances has been provided for in the Estimates for 2003. Provision has been made for an increase in the public hospital statutory in-patient accommodation charge from €36 per day to €40 per day subject to a maximum payment in any 12 consecutive months of €400. In addition, the charge for private and semi-private accommodation for private patients in category one and category two public hospitals will increase by 10% as follows:
