196 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport when his Department's website will be updated to include information regarding the penalty points system, including a schedule of anticipated dates for the introduction of various aspects of the system, the types of offences to be included and the number of points each penalty will attract; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22785/02]

A full PDF version of the Road Traffic Act, 2002, and the accompanying explanatory memorandum has been placed on the Department's website, www.transport.ie. The extension of the operation of the penalty points system to all the offences listed in the First Schedule of the Act will be pursued with a view to applying the penalty points system fully by the end of 2003. The website is being updated and it is intended to pro vide additional information on the site, including updates as the penalty points are extended.
