Vol. 557 No. 5

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Richard Bruton

Question:

220 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the present income thresholds for eligibility for a local authority tenancy, for shared ownership purchase for affordable housing; and if he proposes to make changes in these limits in 2002. [22989/02]

My Department has not set a general income threshold for eligibility for local authority housing. In assessing the housing needs of applicants for local authority housing, local authorities have regard to a number of factors including means. Any review of income thresholds is a matter for each local authority having regard to local circumstances.

The income limit for eligibility for the shared ownership and affordable housing schemes was revised to €32,000 for a single income household, with a pro rata increase for a dual income household with effect from 1 January. While there are no plans at present to revise the maximum income limits, my Department is keeping the terms of the schemes under review.
