Architectural planning for a building project at the Model School, Monaghan, is at an early stage. Decisions relating to the rate of progress to construction of individual projects will be taken in the light of the allocation made for school building purposes in the Estimates for 2003. In this context, I will publish details of the expenditure proposals in the new year. It is not possible at this point to say when construction will commence.

Question:

145 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Education and Science the status and prospects for the new build or repair work at Killanny national school, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan. [22931/02]

My Department has an extensive primary school building programme under way at present details of which are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. My Department is not in a position to start architectural planning for a major building project at the school referred to by the Deputy and the board of management should ensure that essential health and safety issues at the school are attended to with the funding from the devolved grant for minor works.
