Vol. 557 No. 5

Written Answers. - Performing Arts.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Question:

166 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism his views on whether the Government should recognise the professions of dance and choreography properly, as distinct art forms in their own right; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22818/02]

The Arts Bill, 2002, includes a definition of the arts which meets the Deputy's concerns. The Bill proposes that "arts" means any creative or interpretative expression, whether traditional or contemporary, in whatever form and includes, in particular, visual arts, theatre, literature, music, dance, opera, film and architecture and includes any medium when used for those purposes.

Question No. 167 answered with Question No. 67.
