Vol. 557 No. 6

Written Answers. - Registration of Title.

Willie Penrose

Question:

105 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance if his Department has received a proposal submitted by Westmeath County Council to effect a land swap with the Office of Public Works for the purpose of providing a site for a school (details supplied) in County Westmeath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23158/02]

The Commissioners of Public Works act as agent on behalf of the Department of Education and Science in the acquisition of sites for new school facilities. A proposal to effect the land swap in question was received from Westmeath County Council on 8 November 2002. The Commissioners of Public Works are at present considering the proposal, in terms of the Department's site requirements and including the relative values of the sites in question. The commissioners will, in this regard, revert to the council shortly. The final decision regarding the suitability of a site for the gaelscoil is a matter for the Department of Education and Science.
