Vol. 557 No. 6

Written Answers. - Information Technology.

Denis Naughten

Question:

156 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans to improve the level of information technology in the health service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22829/02]

I am currently finalising the national health information strategy which I intend to launch very shortly. This strategy will pave the way for the full exploitation of all aspects of health information and for the implementation of a wide range of electronic exchanges of information services within and between the community of health service providers and with the public. A significantly enhanced information technology infrastructure will be required to underpin these developments. These developments will lead to better delivery of health services and will facilitate better management of the health services at all levels.
