157 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has asked the Medical Council to explain the very long delay in publication of the report of their investigation into the serious allegations of gross malpractice against a former consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. 159 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will establish a compensation tribunal for victims of gross malpractice at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, as requested by Patient Focus. [23019/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 157 to 159, inclusive, together.

The matter raised by the Deputy has been referred to the Medical Council in the context of its statutory functions as set out in the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978. The council's deliberations are confidential and I have no function in the matter. I intend to await the outcome of its deliberations prior to deciding what further measures may be required in this case.
