Question:

177 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if increases in charges to individuals, to companies or to groups have been sanctioned to be charged by agencies or units under the aegis of his Department; and the changes being made in absolute and in percentage terms. [23098/02]

Provision has been made in the Estimates for 2003 for an increase in the public hospital statutory in-patient accommodation charge from €36 per day to €40 per day subject to a maximum payment in any 12 consecutive months of €400. In addition, the charge for private and semi-private accommodation for private patients in category 1 and category 2 public hospitals will increase by 10% as follows:
