Vol. 557 No. 6

Written Answers. - Rail Services.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

205 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Transport if, in the present review of the rail net work, social benefits, economic benefits and the goal of balanced regional development will be given equal weight with poor financial strategies and revenue criteria in determining the future rail strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23048/02]

The terms of reference for the strategic rail review are very comprehensive. The consultants undertaking the review are required to take into account a wide range of issues over and above just financial and revenue aspects alone. The criteria mentioned by the Deputy are just some of the criteria being considered.

The review is expected to be published in the new year.
