Vol. 557 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

211 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo did not receive a ewe cull payment since 1998 since destocking, considering that all REP scheme moneys received were repaid to his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23147/02]

My Department has made compensation payments to all sheep farmers with commonage in the six western counties, who are not in REPS, who have suffered losses as a result of the 30% destocking in 1998. According to information provided by the Department of Agriculture and Food the son of the person named entered REPS in August 1998 and, therefore, would not have been required to destock under the interim framework plan. The quota was transferred to the person in May of this year but there has never been any quota frozen by the Department of Agriculture and Food. Therefore the full ewe premium entitlement is available to the person. Accordingly, the person is not entitled to compensation from my Department.
