Vol. 557 No. 6

Written Answers. - Road Network.

Martin Ferris

Question:

217 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when it is planned to improve the Cappa Road, Oakpark, Tralee, County Kerry, which is currently in very poor condition. [23194/02]

The maintenance and improvement of non-national roads in this area is a matter for Kerry County Council to be funded from its own resources, supplemented by State grants. Since 1997, non-national road grants to Kerry County Council have increased by 67%. The 2002 allocation of €16,590,718 represents a 7% increase on the 2001 outturn of €15,454,854.

The initial selection and prioritisation of projects to be assisted from the various non-national road grant categories – mainly discretionary grants, restoration grants and EU co-financed specific improvement grants – is a matter for the local authority and my Department has no function in this regard.
