Vol. 557 No. 6

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices dealing with three different topics under Standing Orders. I propose to deal with these topics separately and I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the Adjournment of the House under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of extreme urgency, locally and nationally, the need for the Minister for Health and Children and the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to intervene to prevent a threatened all-out strike by SIPTU members of Clare health services arising from the suspension without pay of three receptionists who were transferred from Our Lady's Hospital to Ennis General Hospital and the need for the Minister to make a statement on the matter.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in accordance with Standing Order 31.

In accordance with the terms of Standing Order 31, I seek to move the Adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent attention, the serious threat to postal delivery services in many parts of the country as a result of the decision of the Irish Postmasters Union to ballot its members on intensified industrial action and the need for Government intervention to secure a settlement of the dispute.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of national importance, the Irish Postmasters Union dispute which mainly affects rural post offices, particularly postal deliveries in rural areas.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in accordance with Standing Order 31.

I request the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the need for a full public inquiry into the scandal of animal deaths and damage to human health in the Askeaton area of County Limerick following the report from the IFA by Professor Alloway of the Imperial College, London, which states that there is ample evidence of atmospheric pollutants deposited near Askeaton.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.
