Vol. 557 No. 6

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

41 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of persons holding medical cards other than persons over 70 at the latest date for which figures are available; the proportion of the population this represents; the similar figures in terms of numbers and percentage of the population for the equivalent date in each of the previous five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22913/02]

The most recent figures available to my Department are for August 2002 and the figures for August 2001, 2000 and 1999 are also included in the following table. This information has been provided by the GMS (Payments) Board and refers to historical data kept by it on capitation figures. It will not be possible to provide information for those age 70 years and over prior to 1999, since data was not collected in that fashion at that time.
