Vol. 557 No. 6

Written Answers. - Community Support Services.

James Breen

Question:

62 Mr. J. Breen asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason patients in the Mid-Western Health Board area, that had a daily visit from the district nurse have now been informed that a weekly visit is all they will receive in the future; if this is part of the health cutbacks planned by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22827/02]

The provision of community services, and any matters relating to such provision within its functional area, is a matter for the relevant health board or the Eastern Regional Health Authority, ERHA. In this case, responsibility lies with the Mid-Western Health Board. I have been in contact with that board and it has informed me that it has no plans at present to reduce its community services. Services to individual patients are planned based on the individual clinical needs of each case.
