Question:222 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if there is a person (details supplied) in prison anywhere in South America and particularly in Colombia; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23677/02]
Written Answers. - Imprisonment Overseas.
The individual concerned was convicted of a drug-related offence in Peru in October 2002 and was sentenced to two years and four months imprisonment. The consular division of my Department, the Irish Embassy in Mexico and the Honorary Consul in Lima have provided and will continue to provide all possible consular assistance in this case. My Department will continue to monitor this case closely.
