Vol. 558 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

John McGuinness

Question:

345 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason matters raised in correspondence by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny on 23 September 2002 and 3 October 2002 have not been responded to; and the action he intends to take on each of the issues raised other than looking into the matter. [23388/02]

I understand that a reply has issued to the individual in question. The issues raised in the correspondence dealt with the availability of nursing services to meet the needs of a child due to attend a special school. The school in question was informed by the South-Eastern Health Board in June 2002 that funding for a school nurse would be available from September 2002. The recruitment and appointment of the nurse is a matter for the school. The board has increased the level of home support available to the family in question until such time as the child commences school.
