Vol. 558 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Enda Kenny

Question:

385 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Transport the status of the former civil servants previously employed in the driver testing section of the Department of Environment and Local Government in Ballina, County Mayo; the pensions rights applicable in this case; if consultations were held with the persons involved prior to transfer to an agency under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23265/02]

There has been no change in the status or pension rights of civil servants employed in the driver testing section of the Department of Environment and Local Government who transferred to the Department of Transport.

A review of the driver testing service was carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers. The Government decided on 18 July 2001 to accept the recommendation of the PwC report that a public sector agency be established to deliver the driver testing service.
Consultation with staff representatives about the establishment of the agency has already taken place and will continue as the process of establishing the agency proceeds.
